What is hemianopsia?

Hemianopsia is defined as a loss of vision in one half of the visual field. This condition can occur in either the right or left visual field and is often a result of damage to the optic tract or the visual cortex of the brain. It can manifest as either right homonymous hemianopsia, where the right half of the visual field in both eyes is lost, or left homonymous hemianopsia, where the left half of the visual field is lost.

Understanding this condition is crucial as it can significantly impact a person's ability to navigate their environment and perform daily activities. It typically occurs after a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological condition affecting the visual pathways.

In contrast, the other options represent completely different issues. Dizziness relates to balance and spatial orientation, loss of taste pertains to gustatory function, and complete blindness indicates a total lack of sight, which is broader than the specific loss associated with hemianopsia.
