Before a cystoscopy, a signed consent form is generally required to ensure that the patient understands the procedure and agrees to it. Assessment of renal function is also important to ensure that the patient can tolerate the procedure and to identify any existing issues that may complicate it. Fasting for a certain period is often necessary to prepare the patient’s body for the procedure, especially if anesthesia is involved.

In contrast, enemas are typically not required before a cystoscopy. Cystoscopy is focused on the examination of the bladder and urethra, and the preparation usually does not involve the bowel. While some procedures involving the gastrointestinal tract may necessitate clearing out the bowels with an enema, cystoscopy does not have that requirement, making it the correct choice in this context.
